My path to success - experiences and challenges

My career in the physical security industry spans more than 27 years and is rooted in a story of perseverance, growth, and unwavering commitment to family. It's a journey that has seen its share of challenges, but each one has only strengthened my resolve and deepened my understanding of the industry.

I began my professional journey in Venezuela, where I worked at Abbott Laboratories, progressing from Field Service Engineer to Operational Manager. This experience gave me deep insight into how large corporations operate and prepared me to manage my own company, which I successfully ran for several years. I had built a comfortable life—a thriving business, a respected career, and stability.

But I made a life-changing decision: to leave it all behind and migrate to the United States in search of better educational opportunities and a higher quality of life for my family. Like many immigrants, the transition came with sacrifices—starting over professionally, adapting to a new culture, and rebuilding from the ground up. It wasn't easy, but it was worth it.

That journey has shaped who I am today: resilient, adaptable, and deeply motivated by family, which remains the driving force behind everything I do. My family's support and sacrifice have been the bedrock of my success, and I carry their influence with me in every professional endeavor.

Along the way, I've earned the Certified Protection Professional (CPP®) and Physical Security Professional (PSP®) certifications from ASIS International. I also completed an Executive MBA to enhance my strategic thinking and leadership capabilities. These achievements reflect my belief in continuous growth, both personally and professionally.

Why I Started Unlocking PSP

Unlocking PSP began as a passion project to empower my Preferred Technologies (Pref-Tech) coworkers to pursue PSP certification. Pref-Tech's culture is unique and vibrant; it values professional education and inspires employees to aim for certifications, offering substantial economic rewards. My goal was to create something impactful for my coworkers—clear study guides, engaging content, and real-world insights that would inspire them to achieve their professional goals.

As the project gained traction, I saw the opportunity to expand beyond my team. I decided to open the platform to the broader security community, sharing the same high-quality resources with professionals worldwide. I developed a podcast and study guides using AI tools to make learning more efficient and accessible.

This initiative, fueled by the spirit of Pref-Tech culture, represents a personal journey of creativity and passion crafted independently during my free time beyond my professional commitments.
